The freedom-seeking movement which resulted in the constitutional revolution in Iran was begun earlier with the protests against Einoddoleh. The governor of Tehran under the pretext of hoarding sugar flagged the Tehrani businessmen. In protest to such act, some merchants staged a sit-in in Masjed Shah and some dignitaries and clergymen joined them. The prayers leader of Masjed (mosque) who was Friday prayers leader and at the same time king's son-in-law opposed the protest and expelled the revolters from the mosque at the request of Einoddoleh. But this group of people moved to Shahrerey and staged a sit-in there and took refuge there. Saadodoleh, minister of trade tried to return them to the town so the news would not be spread to other towns. But the merchants were not convinced and said they would not give up protests till reclaiming their rights. Even when Mozafareddin shah sent a proxy and ordered the people to disperse, they insisted on their demands. Finally the shah submitted to their claim and promised to remove Einodoleh and establish a justice house.
