Organization of Graves:
In 1371 (1992), to create space for the construction of development projects, the Sacred Shrine took steps to organize the old graves around the shrine. The limited available space and the expansion of the development project on the eastern and southern sides of the shrine led to the graves, which had suffered severe damage over time, creating an unsightly appearance in the area. Moreover, due to the lack of clear regulations, these graves were often exploited by opportunistic individuals and were sometimes bought and sold multiple times. Additionally, because these graves were connected to surrounding houses, some had even been transformed into centers of corruption.
With the consent of the families and owners of the graves, the area was leveled, and a precise survey of the location of all the existing graves was conducted. This ensured that the positions of the graves would be marked and preserved after the completion of the development projects.
Furthermore, in order to establish a covered passage linking the shrine of Hazrat Abdul Azim (PBUH) and Imamzadeh Hamzeh (PBUH) to the shrine of Imamzadeh Taher (PBUH), and to facilitate movement while maintaining access to the main courtyard (Baghche Ali Jan), it was necessary to use an underground passage. Since some graves were located in this area, the officials of the Sacred Shrine, in the presence of the families and owners of the graves, took action to relocate them to another area or to a deeper level while fully adhering to religious guidelines.
To carry out this, the area around the graves (fewer than 30) was cleared first, and then the graves were moved using a metal mold and plastering, lifted by a crane.
After the completion of the development projects and the stonework of the floors, the names of the deceased were written according to a previously prepared map, and a number was assigned to each grave. To assist the families and owners in locating the new positions of their graves, a computer program was developed, and guidebooklets were created to provide the necessary information.
Additionally, the Sacred Shrine, according to its planning, allocated a new unit in other areas related to the shrine for families and owners of graves that were displaced due to the development projects.
